Take work for example. Many people get jobs based on the Buddy System. Its not WHAT you know that gets you good jobs. Its WHO you know, and what connections you have.

Many may argue that through hard work one can achieve anything. And i do agree with this. But people must realize that life doesnt work this way. Not everyone can work as hard as me or you. I think the reason why life is so hard is because the current world goverments dont want us to become independent to the point where we dont need them.

Who have answered your own question. If you are a really nice person to everybody you meet then you will have more influential friends and never be short of good company or a good job.

If you like many others get caught in a selfish me me me trap, then tough luck, you are what you think every minute of the day.

Think on it, would you let your brother or your best friend sleep rough in the street or have to beg for food.

Life owes nobody a favour. Get happy and get friendly, people might just like you.

It's the fault of the system we live in, which is very flawed.
Capitalism sadly does not guarantee a meritocracy. (a social order based on personal merits).
Capitalism, specially in its free-market, unregulated form, only serves to accumulate wealth increasingly in the hands of a few individuals that will do anything to try to maintain their current benefits.
There's no true equality of opportunity, poor people still don't have access to the same education, free time, capital opportunities and proper healthcare than the rich have, and that also difficults their chances in life.
That's why I think, also, that inheritance should have a limit. It's unfair that somebody gets to be a millionaire CEO without doing anything to deserve it. Just because your father worked his *** off does not mean you have the right to be a slacker.

Until we come up with a system in which everybody has true equality of opportunity, and where there are no people with special benefits, we will never have a true meritocracy.

You have hit the nail on the head, as far as I'm concerned! I don't remember the author of this quote, but it has to do with MOST men who "lead lives of quiet desperation". You are the backbone of society, the engine that makes it work. And because you may not have that ever-elusive connection of which you spoke, your work remains vital, but scarcely noticed! I broke my back at jobs that were extremely physically demanding in a varied work career, and I have a broken back to show for it! Companies WANT YOU to break your back, and they occasionally will give meaningless "incentives" for each pound they add to your back! But you and I are simply a means to an end for the "bottom line" of these companies! They squeeze whatever they can out of us--and then they squeeze us out when they can find someone else to do it for less!! I suppose that the secret for people like us is to find our own ways to make it work FOR US in the simple ways, such as the smiles on our kid's faces when we send them off to college! That's how I've found my own personal way to make it work for me! It seems thankless, UNTIL you discover the small, but meaningful ways that your hard work has paid off! For me, it's a better reward than ANY CEO would even have the comprehension for!!! If it's at all possible, find your own personal meaning, and realize that your incredibly hard work has truly made a difference in the lives of others! And THANK YOU for every contribution that you have ever made to our society!!

Survival of the fittest, and only the strong survive.

Anyway, those who can make it through the obstacles are stronger in the long run.

YES, IT IS WHO YOU KNOW, NOT WHAT YOU KNOW. Take advantage of this, and make friends with people who are doing what you want to do. Ex: if you want to be a CEO of a company, go to networking meetings, and befriend them. Same can be applied to all sectors of life.

Life is not designed for people to fail, it's designed to create leaders. Those who can not pick themselves up after they fall, will have a tough time adapting or understanding this.

You screwed up by thinking life is "designed". My life has been charmed. Took a lot of work I'll admit, but I've been more successful than I probably deserved.

It isn't. GOD gave us choices, so they say, so therefore we must decide to do all that is possible to go forward and achieve higher standards then we ourselves had our goals set for. Only we ourselves can hold us back, so they say, so don't you know? Go, go, go, pray, pray, pray and we shall receive all that we ask for...as long as it's within GOD'S will.........peace and love
