This is a very good question!
Control and force is the trademark of humanity.
In the areas you have pointed it out it becomes very apparent.
It stems from the apparent need to be right and show others to be wrong. For the ego this is a form of gratification and a false sense of security, the more that think like me the better chance iIl have of being right, kinda attitude.
Utter madness ofcourse!
Tradition also plays a role along side ignorance.
Force and control are not sacred words and should not belong to any organised religions.
It is a strong indication of the gradual detteriation of the human mind.
The same mind set can be found in football fans there is no difference.
The players are treated as gods. And my team is the best not yours!

In the beginning someone had delusions of grandeur, convinced enough people to follow him, and they raised the following generations to believe this. Some of these religions have small sects, others have whole nations. There is no room for individual thought or reason - because if you really think about it, you might not believe. You, therefore, would not be so easily controlled.
The result of this blind faith is a ton of religious fanatics that believe they have been chosen by God to show everyone else the way. They are willing do it by any means necessary - even if it means sacrificing themselves or killing others. They believe that they are guaranteed a spot in heaven because they were either a warrior or martyr for God.

They feel they have the right to do what they want and to whom they want. It's all a power trip for the most part. If they would learn to let people live as they wish - as long as they are not harming anyone else in the process - life would be so much simpler. Change can't be forced, accept everyone as they are and if a person really wants someone to change, pray, let God do the work, but in the meantime, SHUT UP about it. I know we are taught to go and talk to the unsaved but I know how people react, just like you have, so, we need to let the Lord lead us into who we are to talk with. If someone does not want to hear it and we preach, preach, preach, that will turn them away. Let's face it, even Jesus had to walk away since the people would not listen to him.

I have believed in christianity all my life and have leaned on it through hard times,my mother and father taught me about it and I teach christianity to my children,my wife is christian and I visit my local church hall weekly,I cannot understand how people could folow any other path whilst not believing what I have known and trusted all my life.
To answer your question I tried to look through someone elses eyes, see things in a different perspective. The above story/comment/answer(whatever you want to call it) isn't my point of view, but a point of view that could bring on the actions you are reffering to.
Hope I helped,"god bless you". :-)
Ps.I hope nobody perceived that as a mocking immitation.

Thats How they r raised.
so they believe that whatever they know is ultimate Truth.
its human nature that every small or big group want to take
control of other.
so it sums up all thing
they fight for their group to take control with firm belief.
Logical thinking and openness of thought required
their should be debate or discussion on beliefs (LIVE TV)
but this is never ending game(may help to reduce tension)
dnt worry be happy

"Controlling Personalities" - You've got it slightly wrong...
There is an eternal truth which has been revealed by God from God...k don't wan't to lose you guys...but If a person knows that eternally beautiful truth...somethings thats just so powerful to contain within the human heart - he has no choice but to share it.
I personally don't want to be standing before God at the gates of heaven and answering a question like: "YOU KNEW THE TRUTH ABOUT ME - THAT I AM THE TRUTH , LIGHT AND THE WAY BUT DID NOT SHARE THE TRUTH TO RICHARD B AND NOW YOU HAVE TO SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES"

People want to put their fate into the hands of others because they fear the responsibility.
It is easy for them to let someone who claims to be divine control the fate of their afterlife.
I also feel that those who push their beliefs on others are really seeking approval for what they are doing.
And still others really feel as if it is their mission to save others by sharing their faith with them.

I think they're insecure, and are searching for approval. They get mad when you don't see their viewpoint. They should be happy that you listened and let it go. I spoke to a person once(without mentioning specific religion) just out curiosity for their religion, and she won't leave me alone, she comes to my house about once a week, I keep telling her I'm not ready to choose and she keeps pushing. They don't realize it pushes people away. Asking questions means you want to learn, not convert.

I'm no expert, but as I understand it we are to be fishers of men. To spread the gospel is asked of us. It seems that all religions care about the fellow man and as a result try to help them. It is sad when fanatics harm another.
