I got ripped on ebay by buying through someone named jogirl321 (just to warn everyone) I just wanted to see if I could learn to do one myself. I have alot of patience for sewing and details so I thought I might be good at it. I dont want to sell them I just want them for my little daughter.

Sorry you got jipped. I hope you reported them through eBay if the seller isn't willing to take a return and refund your money.

Go to a local fabric store, or store that sells fabrics. They will have patterns there to help you. The pattern will also tell you what kind of fabric to use, and give you a list of other materials you might need, like a zipper, lace, ribbons, sequins, etc... Try McCall's or Simplicity for some good patterns.

Toddler Pageant Dresses

Try to ignore all the people who couldn't get off of their high horses long enough to answer your question. I would not pay more than $150 for that dress. The skirt is cute, but the bodice seems oddly long, and the little orange flower things are tacky... it looks like someone ripped up a lei and stuck it on the dress. I don't know what level you are planning on competing in with this dress, but I wouldn't have someone wear this for anything other than a prelim. There are many other dresses on ebay that are much better for state/national pageants, and will score better too... you don't want your daughter to lose points just because of her dress! Hope this helps, and good luck to your daughter in her pageants!!

Another thing you might try is to find one dress that you take apart and make a pattern for your basic dress. Then you can add the little details on all kinds of fabrics etc. These dresses are pretty detailed but i think not impossible for the good sewer. They probably look harder than they are. Also if child is in pageants you can save money on all the other clothes they need for traveling and everything by sewing them your self. Some people hire a seamstress in their home town to make them and I have seen quite elaborate ones made that way.

Look in the pattern books in the sewing section at walmart or michaels or another crafts store.

Go to a thrift store or goodwill like place and browse the little girl's formals. Tons of them get donated and are in perfect condition.

I hope you reported the seller. If you paid via Paypal, you can probably get your money back.

To make a dress, you need a pattern first.

Why would a toddler need a pageant dress?

Too bad you got ripped off.

Maybe it's a sign that your BABY shouldn't be in pageants!

Good luck!!!

Oh my gosh - you're having a toddler in a pageant? How cruel! Let the child be a child. It's appearant this is something you missed out on and wish to live this through your child -DON'T!!! Read some psychology books and discover what children are supposed to be doing at different life stages. Being in pageants is not listed and is downright child abuse. Be a parent to your child and help him/her to develop like a normal child not a freak.
