I'm fond of it for the simple reason that they usually run a different front page story to everyone else (being independent.) I also tend to think that they report on the more important issues rather than the sensational ones.

The Independent still has a reputation for making good use of photography to illustrate their stories. Although others, like The Guardian, have also discovered the power of pictures, it was The Indy that first set the trend for dramatic b/w images. I personally like their mix of news and features.

I used to love the indy,when it was a lot bigger and the journalism has got so fuddy duddy these days.they used to have a fab crossword too,but I'm afraid i don't buy it anymore,its just not any different that some of the rubbish tabloids these days sadly.

Dislike. Massively. Why?
What is their name about? Independent of what? Government? Bias? Certainly not the latter.
Their front pages and editorial are always complaining without offering any solutions or any perspectives. The headlines are always doom and gloom, they offer no insight or any perspective. "People Kill People" ... shock, horror.
Statistics are glibly quoted without any concession that statistics can really illustrate whatever you want.
Their sports section is rubbish, although their rugby is ok.
They employ Robert Fisk. Period.

it used tobe really good, informative, fun paper b4.
now its just a really boring paper just there to make u feel you feel quilty of living. they should lighten up
