The love of material things is not as important as who you are and what you believe.

This is a guess, so don't bank on me, but. I think that despise property refers to not placing "value" on property or "material things", therefore keeping your soul alive. Your soul is pure and if it is to be all it is meant to be, possessions should not be important.

The Bible says, paraphrasing, "What good is it to gain the whole world and yet lose your soul?" Material possessions will never last. The soul will live forever either in heaven or hell. Which one your soul goes to depends on if you have asked Jesus Christ into your heart as Lord and Savior and repented from your sin, which we all have by the way, I'm not singling you out. I hope your soul is secure for heaven with Jesus Christ.

My guess would be to not depend on materialistic things to keep you happy. You will find more happiness in life if you have a strong, happy and healthy soul and spirit. People can take things away from you, but nobody can touch your soul.

Well, this refers to the suggestion Jesus made about selling all of your earthly possessions, and giving them away and trusting in God to give you everything you need. Basically it means --invest in your spirit , since it is the only REAL thing you take with you when you die...we must think about this, since it's inevitable for us all. Don't be consumed or obsessed with material stuff.
