Hostels are great cheap places to stay while traveling. Usually the rooms hold up to 6 people but most places have areas for you to lock your belongings. And u always just take your valuables with you. My sister and I traveled through Italy last summer and had almost no problems with hostels. Lonely planet books have some great suggestions. Hostels are also great because it gives you the opportunity to meet other travelers and find the best places to stay or see in the next place you are going.
Have fun traveling. I went to Thailand a few years ago and fell in love with it. If you can try to find your way up to Laos. And make your way out of the cities. One warning. Showing your nees or shoulders in public outside of the cities is considered rude and will not be tolerated in most temples. Some of the temples will also not allow open toed shoes. So do some research about the places you go. But the people are really freindly and the food is amazing.

When I recently moved to London, I found a good link here

http://www.freewebs.com/dvdrentals

The link is on the right hand menu bar 8th link or so. Do register and check them out. You may get some good deals.

PS: Does not make any use to pay as I did get a lot of people contacting me anyway. Free Subscription is good enough

A double room? are you gay???? or do you mean a twin room??I mean, yes you want to save money but sharing a room and sharing a bed with someone who is likely to wake up with a 'stiffy' are 2 different things!! Gross!!!!!!

You could try a youth hostel

Try this web site

http://www.edinburghhostels.com/

You could also find a short term let. Here's a couple of sites that might help you out.
