I knew I was preg right away and took a home test on day 17 of the cycle because my period is every 22 days. This was the only time I could get a positve result. My doctor got 2 negative urine tests in the days following my day 17 and one negative blood test. I think although I am a 22 dayer that it took into the 4th week before things were finally coming up positive with my dr.! I was able to get positve results using the Below is what my doula told me to do when selecting a pregnancy test. You want one of the tests with the lower numbers. This is the test I used in my 3rd week and the line was faint but it still was there. Answer Early Result Pregnancy Test 25 mIU. You are still early to be testing and the test are just not sensative enough to be picking up your hcg levels. Congratulations!

Pregnancy Test - Sensitivity Comparison
Pregnancy Tests and hCG Values
The pregnancy tests on the market today range widely in their sensitivity in picking up the pregnancy hormone, hCG. In the chart below, the lower the number in the "hCG Detected" column, the earlier you can use the pregnancy tests. As a general rule, hCG levels, if you are pregnant, are between 5 - 50 mIU a week before your period is due. The hCG levels in your system should double every two to three days.
Please remember that every woman is different and the time it takes for the fertilized egg to implant in your uterus wall can vary. A common misconception is that implantion occurs 7 days after conception, but the research findings showed that first appearance of HCG (implantation) occurred 6-12 days after ovulation, with 84% of the pregnancies implanting on days 8-10 after ovulation. If you don't get a positive pregnancy test, it doesn't necessarily mean that you are not pregnant. It could be that you ovulated later than you thought (meaning that conception and subsequent hCG production didn't happen as when you expected) or that, for you, implantation took longer than the average. Your period arriving is a sign that you are not pregnant this cycle, as is a negative blood test from your doctor.

Is a super sensitive pregnancy test the best to use?
For most women, the resounding answer would be YES! It allows you to know earlier if your attempts to conceive were sucessful and get medical care as soon as possible. There *is* a down side to extra sensitive pregnancy tests though. 25% of all pregnancies unfortunately end in miscarriage and many of these being very early pregnancies. If you use a very sensitive pregnancy test, where you test before the day your period is due, you could catch an early pregnancy but end up going on to have your period anyway due to a very early miscarriage. Some women will find it very hard to deal with this sort of emotional rollercoaster.

Please do not rely on an EPT test they are not reliable as far as I know. My girlfriend used it twice well into her first trimester and all the ept test came out negative. Then she tried a first response test to compare results and that one came out positive. However she believed the ept test for a long time and she partied and drank alcohol during the pregnancy even took a morning after pill. She lost the baby. I think it was because the ept test, if it would have given her accurate results maybe she would have been aware of the pregnancy and done things differently :(

Out of all the polls and things I have seen on trying to conceive sites, etc. The earliest day was 8 days after ovulation. 10 days was actually the average. But it all depends on the woman. It can take anywhere from 6 to 12 days for the egg to implant and then that is when it will show up positive

Yep u still could be.. 5 days is kinda early, altho some tests say they can determine if u are or not.. i dont think they always work that well till you are really late/...

I took a test the day before i was due for amy period and it came out sooooooo lite and it took a little while(like 2 or 3 hours!) I went back to look again at my negitive tests and it was positive!

I took one in the evening after I was 1 day late and it was positive! I didn't even have any symptoms at the time. I think you may be a little early with the test. I would wait until after the 13th.

I took mine right around 5 days before my period...womens intuition I guess because it came out positive. A very light positive but positive. But I wouldn't put all my money on you not being pregnant though. I would wait until the day your period was supposed to start or maybe a few days after if it hasn't came to test again. I say wait afew days after because it fou aren't pregnant you can stress yourself out and that could delay your period from starting.

I took a test about a week before my period was due. I had some serious symptoms going on already (extreme fatigue, sore b**bies etc.) Mine turned to pink very quickly. Make sure you are using your first morning urine, cuz that will be stronger and more concentrated. I would give it another couple days and try again. Every body is different. Best of luck!

because your testing 5 days early you should be using first morning urine when using the hpt you need to follow time lines so you don't get a false positive if its past most of the time 10 minutes you are to put them in the garbage and don't go look later the test drys and its a evap line that you see now wait for a week past your period if it does not come then test and 99% of the time you will get a true result lots of baby dust to you

You could possibly be pregnant, I would wait until a couple of days after you are suppose to get your period, I took a HPT two days after a missed period and now I have a beautiful 9 month old son.

Depending on your average menstrual cycle, some pregnancy tests will be able to tell about 4-5 days before your due date. But this is very individual.
