No! But it's not a democracy either. They have had one party rule here since 1948!!
The LDP or Liberal Democratic Party are the power in Japan. They choose the prime minister internally, so the people only vote for the party. Election time in Japan is an extremely annoying time where hysterical, shrill voiced women drive round everyones neighbourhoods in vans, waving frantically to anything that moves and screaming their candidates' names through loud speakers and I mean LOUD speakers.
I always feel like throwing a rock through their windscreens by about the 100th time my baby daughter wakes up crying because of them!
There is a communist party here though, but they have never really been contenders for leadership.

No, but they do have quite abit of Socialism, especially government subsidies to corporations. That has caused them a problem this past decade with their economy.
