Turn on the T.V is the Sweeney on, can you still buy a brand new ford cortina, is there only 3 channels on your television. If you answered no to these questions then I am afraid it is no longer the 1970,s. £50 is not a lot of money these days. Sorry I doubt you can stay anywhere in Edinburgh for £50 a week

You can stay at the local hostels (High Street or Castle Rock) for about 75 pound per week (12.5/night with 7th night free). But they will also sometimes trade lodging for doing work around the hostel like making beds and cleaning bathrooms. Give a call first and see if they would accept people at the time you are heading over. More likely to get on in slower seasons.

The Globetrotter Inn is one of the cheaper places to stay that I know about in Edinburgh. It may be more than £50 a week if you're on your own, but if you're planning on sharing with some friends the price will most probably come down to fit your budget. It's definitely worth checking out as it's situated in the Cramond area, which is just lovely. :-)

Um, you can advertise and hope some cash-strapped student is nice enough to let out a spare corner in his/her flat for £50 =p
Yeah, hold up a placard in Edinburgh University's George Square: "Lodging needed, any man-sized nook or cranny acceptable... offering £50/week!"

See above – so aptly put.
You'd be lucky to find anywhere less than £30 a night. I think you may need to borrow a tent and sleeping bag ...
