Maybe public defenders, or those working pro bono for the less fortunate. I know several lawyers that don't necessarily make a great deal of money, they are the working lawyers not the ones on Court TV. I've seen the salary list of federal politicians, and while their income is higher than most, its not all that high compared to company CEO's. However their benefits, like health benefits, are. Politicians who are state or local, don't make much of anything depending on the state and locality.

There are plenty of broke lawyers. They're usually the sleazebag ambulance chasers who graduated next to last in law school and have no other legitimate job prospects.

Politicians always make money, although many like to use bribes and embezzlement from the people they serve to enhance their wealth.

no, as far as i know the poorest politician is Wisconsin senator Russ Feingold, who does not take his bonuses, because "there are still problems back home" therefore he dosent believe he deserves it, personally i think he's one of the better senators out there, but as far as a politician living the normal man's life, heh! we can dream...
