high speed is know as a short stroke eng. or high rpm small block , big blocks know as long "strokers" or torquers . rpm is lower,. well this is as i know them but only pretain to american made v-8s hope this helped

I have only heard this term in respect to Diesel engines. High speed diesel relates to car engines where the piston stroke is short allowing for a higher revving engine. Lorry's use a low speed engine, long piston strong so the engine revs slower but with loads of torque.

Low Speed= Diesel engines usually in big trucks, or operating
large generators, or Cranes etc... only turn in the 800 to 1200rpm
operating range.
High Speed= Motorcycle engines can operate in excess of
10,000 rpm... Car engines can operate up to 6 or 8000rpm
Jet ski motors really scream...etc...

The ford and chevy engines are considered slow speed engines and mopar is considered the high or fast speed engines. Hope this info. helps.
