My hubby says "It's just damn sexy". It think it has something to do with the fact that you are half naked by the time they see it, and it is quite kinky compared to the full, tummy control nylons that you could be wearing. It's the same reason a guy is going to get turned on by seeing you in your bra and panties.
When you're wearing special lingerie you have put in an extra effort to be sexy for a guy, he's bound to notice even if he can't tell you why.
Also (I just thought of this) it's about the only thing, other than boots, that a woman can wear to draw attention specifically to her legs...

Yep.
Designed in an era when sex was a bit more discrete, risque underwear took the place of what sex scenes and playboy do now.
The whole stockings, bodice, garter belt get up is designed to appeal to our baser, animal instincts.
Stockings give an even complexion to the leg, but also support the soft tissue, giving it the appearance of better muscle tone, like heeled shoes (athleticism and youth signify a better breeding partner in evolutionary terms).
The bodice exhagerates the curves of the female body, accentuating the hips and breasts (again, the breeding thing) and minimising the waist (young and healthy).
The rest is about dressing the dish, so to speak. Note the use of the colours red and black - red is associated with seduction, passion and danger, whereas black is associated with all things a tad naughty to plain evil - well who wants to bone a nun?
Garter belts sort of say, "leg territory stops here...you are now entering..."
So it's kind of evolved from being suggestive/ base to taking on it's own arena of sexuality. Not being experienced in such things (honest) but if I was to pay for a high class working girl, I'd kind of expect it, just as you expect a Japanese tourist to have a camera, or a Texan to be wearing a large cowboy hat and boots. The whole getup has become synonymous with sex and sexy - like massages (some people actually have back trouble, you know!)

I find them quite comfortable to wear, and wear them everyday. I find pantyhose constricting and uncomfortable. I am told by guys that the look of really sheer stockings, contrasting to the bare skin of the upper thigh is a super turn on. I am also told the effect is intensified by the straps on the garter belt, which they love to play with, rather than the the hole up kind of stockings, which are never as sheer and slippery anyway.
It could be that you don't have to take them off while messing around, which also continues the effect, unlike pantyhose where you have to rip them open or off to do anything. The stockings just say in place looking and feeling good through the whole time.

Hi-
I'm a chick and I asked myroomies a long time ago (I lived with 3 men while in college...totally innocent, except I am married to one of them now-10 years later)
Suspenders (I'm assuming you mean garters???) and thigh-high stockings offer easy accessibility when needed but still conceal, and are actually, if fitted properly, more flattering than control top or regular hose that tend to "sausage" our flesh in an unflattering way... and not just more flattering- they actually accentuate the positive as there are more parts so if you have larger thighs or hips the straps of the garters break up the space so there isn't just a large expanse of flesh (in my case pasty white and not in such great shape anymore after a long illness and carrying a child)....
Also depends what you combine them with...I find they go best with a more serious, conservative look (for that whipping the glasses off, letting your hair down, naughty secretary thing) or a shorter skirt- something a little school uniform-ish (I went to catholic school for a bit and had my kilt for years after....was my boyfriend's favorite outfit....
Hope this helps...
Best wishes,
now if someone could come up with a way to make them more comfortable and practical....

In general, stockings fit better than pantyhose. The range of body size that a single size of pantyhose are supposed to fit is ridiculous. In most cases, the crotch either hangs down somewhere between the ladie's thighs or the legs are so long compared to hers that they bag up, especially behind the knees. Stockings, on the other hand, merely cover the legs and the garters keep them stretched tight for an absolutely fabulous appearance. My wife has a pair of pearl colored stockings that when she wears them, you can't really see the stockings but oh what they do to the appearance of her legs, absolutely beutiful. About the only disadvantage to stockings is that it can be difficult to find a variety of styles and colors but apparantly demand is increasing so maybe availability will too.

i think it is probably something to do with a suggestion of something half seen. With tights and bare legs it's the same all the way to the tope and the chance of catching a glimpse that high is unlikely, but with stockings there is always a chance of catching sight of the stocking tops or the suspender belt. It's the feeling of seeing something you're not supposed to.

Because of the visual and psychological triggers that they enable.
Stockings imply that you may or may not have anything under them, especially thigh highs .
Suspenders (like overalls) draw a line down through the breasts, making them a focal point.
Suspenders (like the kind holding up thigh high stockings) make you want to see what mysteries are under where they lead.

The female body is amazing and those clothes enhance how you look. Most girls like romance whereas men are stimulated by what we see. When you put stockings on, imagine rolling a small ball in front of a cat...Same effect.

It's difficult to explain the appeal, but I will try...
Part of it is the contrast between the darkness of the stocking and the lightness of the skin.
Part of it is seeing something revealed that we are not always allowed to see.
Men are visual creatures by nature. And if it works, don't try to fix it! Best of luck and keep wearing them for your lucky guy.
