There doesn't appear to be any isolation valve under the sink for the hot water inlet. Does anyone know where it might be please

Well if this is plumbing cowboy style, don't bother to call another.
What you need.
One compression fitting stop c o c k for where ever you want if between the supply and say 1ft away from your sink wherever it is easy to work.
Two spanners to fit the stop c o c k nuts.
Plumbers mate to make a water tight joint
Pipe cutter that you twirl around the pipe.
Marking blue
A tape.
A freeze wrap made for the job from B&Q or builder's merchant.

Measure the recess made for the pipe in the stop **** other wise your pipe will be too small when its joined together.
Mark the pipe with the blue where you are going to make two cuts.
Put the spanners cutters and plumbers mate ready to use.
Now you are ready.
Read carefully the instructions on the freeze bag
Cut the pipe fit the stop **** and tighten the olives on to the pipe. Make it a firm grip but not over firm.
Open the tap and when it starts to drip be ready to fully tighten the olives again when you see it weep.
Open the stop ****, flush out the pipe recheck the olives.

Now you can start work on your tap.
Cor! I think I'll have a cuppa after that lot.
PS. c o c k = ****. It will not print the word.

If you have a hot water cylinder try looking there. With my system I have to isolate the feed into the cylinder then drain the cylinder by running the hot taps. Failing that, the only thing is to maybe hire a freezing kit which will form an ice plug in the pipe - allowing you enough time to cut the pipe and fit an isolating valve. Good luck.

it will depend on what is feeding your hot water
you will certainly need to switch off the power source for the hot water weather combi boiler , imersion or other type boiler,
as you will be draining the water from them.
if its from a combi shut it down and then turn off the cold feed at stopcock and drain the hot and cold taps as the combi is fed from the cold supply dont forget upstairs taps open them as well as water can be trapped in pipe untill you cut it and get very wet
type 2 there may not be a shutoff valve by your imersion tank if not make a bung from an old round bit of wood and stick it in the main tank in the loft to block the outlet so it wont fill the imersion tank also tie up the ballcock as a secondry measure
drain the hot taps might take a while go and check the bung you made to make sure its still in place
if you cant make the bung then tie up the stopcock and drain both the main tank and imersion tank this wastes a lot of water though
oh and fit shut off valves while the system is down to help you later on. as if you get aleak you wont want to go through all this again will you
also monitor the stop **** operation after as old ones can stick dont just assume all is ok after you put it all back together
also when you turn the water on do it slowly as there will be air in the system and you may get some rattling and spluttering in the pipes as the water fills up.
or call a plumber if your really not sure you can do this

Look for the pipe coming out of the attic feeding the hot water tank. There is normally a gate valve on the pipe. You may need to go into the attic to find it. Close that valve then open the hot water tap until no more water comes out.

if there is no stop c.o.c.k leading out from the hot water tank or a shut off screw on the pipe where you want to shut off the water you can probably go to your local DIY store and buy something called "pipe Freeze" this temporaraly freezes the section of pipe you want to work on it lasts approx 15mins so you have to be reasonably quick

Failing that you can shut off main water supply then drain the ENTIRE system (i.e. centeral heating too if connected to hot water supply dont bother if it is on a seperate sys) then spend as much time as you want installing the new sink

GOOD LUCK!

Turn off the water main coming into the house....and install cut-offs under that sink for hot and cold while you are at it....they should have been there in the first place....go figure.....

There probably isn't one. You need to turn off the mains water and drain the hot tank. Then fit the new sink and turn the mains on again.

there may be a section of the pipe that has a phillips screw on the side - if it has then I think you can tighten this and this will shut off the water supply to that stretch of pipe. But I am no expert....

it is simple go to your local Plumb centre and they will supply at very low cost a aerosol and a foam skirt this will freeze the water in the pipe allowing you to make the connection(they only cost a few £s and are very reliable
