i have just brought a computer from dell. i wanted it to be able to play new games etc. It has cost me 1600 pounds. which was over my buget but was assured this will be excellent and will suit all my needs and have excellent graphics. Can you lot please tell me if these sound fine and give your views. as before 1 week ago i had no idea about computers. The specs are;
Graphics Card NVIDEA G-Force 7950 1GB Singles (which i upgraded from a 256MB for 300 pounds approx)
Memory Dual Channel 2048MB DDR2
Hard Drive 320GB
Monitor Ultra Sharp 19"
Sound Card Sound Blaster X FI Extreme Music
Dimension 9200 Dual Core E6400 2.13Ghz. which i was told is plenty quick enough after suggesting 2.4Ghz.

Please could you read this and reply. i wud very much appreciate feedback. i will recieve my computer within 7-10 days they said and i am happy to tell you what it is like when i have brought it incase you were thinking of getting one. you can reply on here or by email on shaunoj456@hotmail.com

I was told that 2.13Ghz Processor would be fine though and plenty fast enough and you dont really need to spend any more money on that. So i cud only take Dells advice on that. But i originally thought a 2.4Ghz would be more suitable but she said there was no need.

This is a mean machine.
Just to clarify on the processor. It is dual core and as such the processor speed has been reduced to the 2.x ghz. The lastest version is 2.4Ghz I believe. In effect it is 2 processors hence DUEL CORE. Its a great processor so going to a 3.XGhz CPU is in fact going backwards. Nice machine enjoy!!!

Yes, it's sounds alright. Would agree though, that you could have got a faster processor. Lots of memory is good and Sound Blaster sets the standard for audio cards.

Yeah - faster processor. You may be able to save cash on the Hard Drive; 320GB is a lot to make up the difference.

It it's a PC I'd go for a 3.4Ghz or above.

I Bought a 3ghz three years ago and it's still doing me proud.

I would have probably gone for a faster processor considering what you spent on upgrading the graphics card and for the amount of memory you have but it should be plenty good enough for playing games.

i live in the town where Dell Computers owner(Michael Dell) started his business in his mom and dads garage. and after owning but one dell i can say with honesty, i would only buy another dell if my only other choice was compaq. your machine sounds fine and i hope you have luck with it but i myself would rather build my own machine. my last 2 machines are ones i built and they are the best i have ever had. not too mention the wealth of knowledge that comes with building your own enables you to better repair and maintain your own machine. Dell used to base it's tech support in India and that's fine for folks in India and those outside of India that are used to talking to people with heavy Indian accents but it was very difficult to understand one rep when i called them one time and one time only. That was enough motivation to learn it for myself. good luck with your machine. The rep had me , step by step, unplug my ethernet cable and flip it around and plug it in. it took her 15 mins to go through all those steps and after i figured out what she was trying to have me do i terminated the call. ...if my patch cable was bad turning it around will not reverse the problem or do anythinng but get me right back to where i started. ...that was horrible

Thant is one good computer but you should have built it your self with same specs and you would have saved a lot of money.
