I friend of mine in her 40s has just started getting random nose bleads. what could it be?

She should have her blood pressure checked. Nose bleeds are common with high blood pressure. Could also just be something as simple as dry air.

this could be a sign of high blood pressure at your friends age also medication can be a cause. I would advise your friend to see a G.p just to clear this up. It could be a simple as small capillaries along the lining of the nose are some times closer to the surface in some people. Tell your friend not to worry and support her in making that appointment Good luck

Best to get Doctors advice on this one, It could be a number of things.
1) Hayfever
2) Allergy
3) Congestion
4) Something stuck up there
5) Something else???

My older sister used to get those as well, she apparently went to the doctor and got her nose "cauterized"? I'm sure I misspelled that but it's when they burn some of the blood vessels in the nose that are too close to the inner surface of the nostrils....... She doesn't have them anymore so I guess it worked... :)

It could be a weakened vein in the nose. Fixing it involves a simple cortorisation.

Stress, thats what gives me random nose bleeds. And pregnancy, nose bleeds all the time when pregnant.

Nose bleeds are sometimes the first symptom in lukaemia, so I would suggest seeing a doctor forthwith

It is usually due to mucous nasal lining drying out.

She should try using a humidifier or vaporiser at night in her bedroom. Also, any nasal sprays such as decongeestants should be avoided.
