Red blood cells do not have a nucleus so that they can carry maximum number of oxygen molecule from the lungs to respiring tissues.Infact red blood cells did not had a nucleus even before and they are destroyed every 120 days.Lack of nucleus is also associated with the presence of the polypeptide haemoglobin.

having a nucleus would make a red blood cell unnefficient in carrying oxygen as it would take up too much space in the cell... Besides that, the red blood cells do not need to move by itself as it is being pumped by the heart. that is y red blood cells do not need nucleus.

note* nucleus controls all the actions n metabolism in a cell.
