Far cheaper to repair and alot easier to modify! If your into hi end games, dont buy a laptop either!

A desktop has several advantages over a laptop.
1. Harder to steal.
2. Easy to modify or customize
3. A wide variety of monitors to chose from, including multiple monitors at the same time.
4. No worry about battery charge.
5. Harder to drop on the floor and damage.
6. A better keyboard with more keys.
7. Probably more ports and easier access to peripherals.
8. More powerful CPU/RAM configurations on the top end.

Desptops are somewhat more powerful, espicially for gaming, but laptops have been closing in that gap here lately.
The main advantage to a dekptop over a laptop is the abilty to upgrade, and configure it the way you want. With a laptop, you can upgrade the ram, hard drive, that's about it. With a desktop, if, for example a new video card comes available, on most machines, you can pull yours out and put the new one in. With a laptop, you are pretty much stuck with the one it was made with.

The desktop computer has bigger monitors. The desktop computer has more comfortable keyboards with it. The desktop computer has a nice mouse with it. A desktop has more nifty parts and features in it than a laptop computer can. A desktop computer doesn't get stolen very much compared to a laptop computer.

Disadvantages of a Desktop Computer

The desktop computer is very complicated with many cords to have to deal with. A desktop isn't very portable. The desktop computer is hard to move from room to room. The desktop computer is big and bulky. The desktop computer takes up more space on a desk and more space in a room than a laptop computer does. A desktop computer is more difficult to move around. You have to save files to CD more to transfer them from one computer to another since you can't take your desktop computer with you very easy.

Advantages of a Laptop Computer

The laptop computer is more portable. You can take a laptop with you every day on vacations and many other places. You can use a laptop computer with a battery if you forget the power cord. You don't have to worry about power since you can run it on a battery for a little while. You can complete your work documents on your laptop computer no matter where you are at. A laptop computer makes it so that you don't have to transfer files to another computer as much cause you already have all of your files already on your laptop computer. A laptop computer makes personal and work much more easier. A laptop computer is worth the expensive price tag because it enables you to get more work completed quickly and easier. It does help to reduce stress. Laptop computers enables you to check your email quickly during the day and night without having to go to the desktop computer. The laptop computer only has one power cord and it doesn't have a ton of cords to deal with.

Disadvantages of Laptop Computer

Laptop computers don't have as much power as a desktop computer does. The laptop computer doesn't have as many nifty features as desktop computer does. The laptop computer isn't as easy to upgrade as a desktop computer is. A laptop computer often does get stolen more easy than a desktop computer does. A laptop computer is more difficult to fix than a desktop computer cause everything is compact tightly together inside.

depends really, desktops are generally better for performance and storage. however if you need to use a computer on the move then obviously a laptop is better. desktops are easier to modify and increase memory etc, they include slots for extra ram etc.

Desktop hardware may be upgraded, i.e. you may swap out the old Motherboard for a newer one (and the old CPU, sound card, graphic card, NIC, RAM may be able to be used on the new motherboard)
Availability of more than one CDROM/DVD drive
Greater versatility for adding adapter cards

also, you can have multiple dvd/cd-rom drives.
desktops typically have more and better options for microprocessors.
Overall costs are typically lower with desktops as the devices are not optimized for power drain or designed for a specific laptop or laptop series.

It's easier to upgrade a tower than a laptop. I don't even think I'd try. Now you're talking about someone else upgrading your equipment. I really don't want to pay somebody else to do this.

umm...donno about the technical aspects much..
but to me a desktop set up at home or in my room looks a nice piece of decorative accessive while at the same time reflecting your being modern and sort of along the wave of today's technology.

cheaper, but I love my laptop, by boyfriend loves his desktop, personal decision I guess.
