The US revolution was a violent change.

Passive change is when it happens with or without your help. For instance, 9-1-1 resulted in a lot of changes to homeland security. Because you had no control over that particular change, for you it is a passive change, since you did not influence it.

Violent change is a change totally against what you wanted and makes for a radical change. The best example I can think of is in World War II when the Nazis force the Jews into concentration camps.
