I fear that we might not be able to deliver on time!
This stupid Gauteng train - why dont they just put in in Cape Town (no offence to ya folks in Jozi) Seeing that the main stadium will be in Cape Town.

Net nou F O K hulle op!!
Do you think the government is to blame or do you think its certain members of the ANC or is it just the City of Cape Town or who can be blamed.................

Isn't the main stadium gonna be in Durban? That's the impression I got here in UK, cause the are building that whole new stadium named after Shaka's father.
Well, despite all the technical hitches, remember, SA pulled off the Rugby World Cup 1995, so lets be optimistic and say yes, it will go well.
It will do wonders for SA's foreign investment.
Anyways, most of the buildings for the 2004 Olympics where only completed a few months before, and Greece isnt that much more first world than SA.

To be honest with you, it also brings me some fear when FIFA itself is beggining to doubt their faith in South Africa as a host country. Mind you, they are decision makers and reserve the right to withdraw any pre-made decisions. We as South African have got to demonstrate that we will host the world cup event at a world class level, no matter what. The problem is First Impressions Last. The pace at which the preparations are going on are a bit slower than expected, and that has created the first impressions. Four years is not a little time, and infact, it's 3 years and some few mnths now before the World Cup. However, I haven't lost faith in South Africa as a host country. For the question of Gautrain being in Jo'burg, I think it is in the right place. Johannesburg has got the biggest and busiest Airport in SA, making Jo'burg the face of SA to the world. So Gautrain will be more usefull in Jo'burg than in any other city. Be assured that in every city incl Cape Town there will be some transportation improvements.

Here is some consoling information I have just found:

Goeie middage Kelcy V. Natuurlik kan ons dit doen. Have faith in our lovely country. The stadiums are planned, the railways, are in the process with new train lines. We will have trains to and from the airport (in Cape Town). You under estimate our country, and I think the ANC are doing a great job thus far (apart from the people who ride the gravy train). We WILL be ready, and we will be hosting 2010. Its too important to our country to "stuff" up. Trust me.

The inside word in FIFA is that it will be taken away in the middle of next year and given to either the US or Australia. Blatter needs the African vote to be re-elected in 2007 which is why it hasn't happened so far. Has the ANC delivered on anything it promises? So why would anyone believe they can get their act together and build Stadiums, refurbish roads, put a first World transport system in place.be able to provide sufficient accommodation and not least guarantee the safety of supporters. They are too busy arguing about who will get what slice of the pie. Of the African continent South Africa is best placed to hold the World Cup but in reality it is demeaning to the event to hold it in a 3rd World Country who should have other priorities on their mind.

These projects are always pushed up to the wire, because the bureaucrats who want the fame and fortune they bring can't run a piss-up in a brewery.

Kelcy V - I've got bad news for you. Probably not going to happen. The corrupt ANC can't even protect its own citizens. Having the sort of tourism that an event like the World Cup would bring, would be like erecting a shooting gallery for the thugs and rapists that wander your streets, unhindered by the so-called police force.

that depends how you define success... will we host it - yes i think so.

Will we make a profit? Not a chance in hell, it's 4 years away and we are already running 3 times over budget!!!
