What is the difference between "teleological theories" and "Consequentialism(consequential theories)" ?

The defenitions (Wikipedia):
* Teleological ethics refers to ethical propositions which are aimed at a certain "end" (telos in Greek, hence "teleology".)
* Consequentialism refers to those moral theories that hold that the consequences of a particular action [form the basis for any valid moral judgment about that action]. Thus, on a consequentialist account, a morally right action is an action which produces good consequences.

Varieties of both consequentialism & teleological theories are: utilitarianism and "ethical egoism".

I don't understand the difference between them.

teleology deals mostly with the finding of "ends" (like you said). Ends that , ultimately, should guide all other aspects.
Think of natural selection, where the processes it may use and the outcomes it may have, are not necessary related, but still they are directed towards a same goal (for example wings are used for flying in doves, but they are also used for swimming in penguins) So 1 action (wings) has 2 outcomes, but 1 goal (survival).
As opposed to consequentialism, where action and outcome are necessary related. So, a moraly good action (from a teleological ethic view) does not need to have a good outcome.
Think of someone who has to break in and steal medicines.

Hope it helps

great question madhavi:) you recognize nevertheless those words sound synonimous yet nevertheless there lies a "deep" difference !! Happiness would be found of issues which will possibly no longer additionally be useful to our non secular or psychological ingredient like we would bypass out & have our fashionable dish & outfits etc., we would sense happy. yet delight comes from a sort of achievent, if we get sturdy grades in learn we would get a favorable feeling that asserts "no longer elementary word paid off" now thats extra useful isn't it ;p[ Now peace.... i think of it relies upon on what concepts-set we undertake towads the "activities" we do for "happiness" or the two "delight", peace honestly exist in our self, it basically ought to be found with the aid of us. a guy or woman of lack of expertise would sense peace at the same time as a no longer elementary worker could be strresed. this is even oposite to that . So peace needs to found with the aid of us.
