I was going to suggest Top Man, I wouldn't be seen dead in there when i lived in London, but now I live abroad, all of those 20 quid off the peg tops are rare and quiet individual here. Selfridges 1st floor is the best place to find clothes if you only want to go to one shop.

For me, the best single shop is Paul Smith in Floral Street, Covent Garden. Quite expensive, but their stuff is really high quality and lasts for years and years. Good selection, attentive staff.
Best dept. store used to be Dickins and Jones, but since that closed I'd recommend Selfridges. A little bit up itself, if you know what I mean, but enormous spread of brands.
