I have been assalted, I have been raped and I have been robbed. All on seperate occasions. The robbery was the easiest to deal with because it was at work and by strangers. There was nothing personal about it. Rape and assult are personal crimes. It doesn't matter if you know the criminal or not, it's still a crime against your person. something like that changes you forever. I still have issues with the rape even though it has been 24 years. The man I was to marry and his best friend decided to "share" me. Even with councling, I still have trust issues that prevent my having a normal long term relationship, nevermind marrage...

I've had one car stolen and another stripped 18 years ago, and my apartment broken into 11 years ago. The strongest feelings are vulnerability and a personal violation. It's accompanied by the anger of being taken advantage of, and being a statistic.
I've since put alarm systems and kill switches on all of my vehicles, and an alarm system, dogs and guns in my houses. None of my friends or family have been victimized, and none of them have gone to the lengths to protect their families or valuables, so you can say my experiences were traumatizing.
Good luck with your article.

I am a 50 year old man. I was mugged by 4 youths when I was returning home at 3am one Sunday morning. They came from the shadows, and broke my nose and my glasses. I put three of them in hospital with various broken bones, and the other one ran away. The police were very unhelpful, wanting to charge me with afray and GBH, and let these tossers go free. Luckily there was a witness, so they could not get away with that. The police are rubbish when it comes to protecting law abiding citizens from thugs. If they could have nabbed me instead of the four yobs, it would have meant less paperwork.

You can make the lead using general facts then use specific next or just use the specific facts as a lead......

My house was robbed and we lost a bunch of personal items that really meant a lot to us such as my high school class ring. The person was caught and we were reimbursed, however, the ring and other such items were not recovered. At work, someone stole over $500.00 of tools and other equipment from a work truck, breaking the lock of the truck.

Crime isnt real; it's just when you have bad dreams. Being a victim of it, that is. Because there's no way to prove ANYthing
