40 miles at exactly (or averaging) 50mph will take 40/50 hours, which is (40/50)*60 minutes = 48 minutes.
Simple maths.

quite easy - the equation to work out this problem is as follows :
( 60 ( mins in hour ) / speed ) * distance to travel .
therefore to travel 40 miles doing a contact 50 mph would take :
( 60 / 50 ) = 1.2 * 40 = 48 mins

40miles / 50mph = 0.8 hours
therefore 0.8hours x 60 min/hour = 48 min
Assuming a constant speed of 50mph.
