50mph = 50 miles in one hour
40 miles @ 50mph = 50 minutes

40 miles at exactly (or averaging) 50mph will take 40/50 hours, which is (40/50)*60 minutes = 48 minutes.

quite easy - the equation to work out this problem is as follows :

( 60 ( mins in hour ) / speed ) * distance to travel .

therefore to travel 40 miles doing a contact 50 mph would take :

( 60 / 50 ) = 1.2 * 40 = 48 mins
