They are less harmful than cigarettes.
This is because when you smoke you don't take just nicotine from the cigarettes but also other harmful substances like coal, NO (nitrogen peroxide) and all the substances from the paper that is burnt.
Just for the history, I will say that nitrogen peroxide is a potent oxidant factor, responsible for the oxidative stress of tissues and inflammation and it is found in the gas phase of smoking.
Read carefully and follow the recommendations about the dosage form and the use of the patches. I'll point out just this:
you will never stuck (take off) the patch and then have the bath with water and soap and you will never use alcohol to remove residues from the patch. Soap increases the permeability of our skin to nicotine and you will feel nausea and dizzy.
First have the bath and after stuck the patch (during sleeping hours it is not indispensable to wear it).

Hi there I too had the same problem. Lots of people will tell you its bad for the baby blah blah but its hard I know. My smoke free pregnancy midwife told me there is a much greater chance of success if you use NRT and yes you can use them when pregnant. I used the 16 hour nicorette patches which I found really helpful. Of course I was worried about my baby but look at it this way. What's worse the 4000 different chemicals in a cigarette or the 1 chemical in a patch. The strength is gradually decreased and I didn't even finish the course I just used them till I lost the urge to smoke. I am now 23 weeks pregnant do not smoke or use nicotine replacement, and am damn proud that i actually succeeded in quitting for my unborn child. With or without nicotine replacement at least you are trying people should notice that and give you that little extra help rather than criticise!

I am tempted to answer that they are less harmful than the product they are supposed to replace, but that doesn't answer your question.
The answer is yes, to a certain degree. They all contain nicotine, it's just the delivery method that changes. One has to watch for allergies, blood pressure, and various severance symptoms when using these products.

I don't think they are harmful. But ------ what you should know is something not many people think about. If you are gonna' stop smoking, you are best stopping altogether. Nicotine is what makes em so addictive - so why replace nicotine with nicotine???? it won't cure your addiction........

Only if you try lighting them or bite your tongue whilst chewing the gum.

No more harmful than puffing on a cigarette! Unless ofcourse you are allergic to something in them and your face swells up to look like a giant plum!
