examples of which include, The Fighting Sioux, Washington Red Skins, Alanta Braves, Cleavland Indians, KC Chiefs, Chicago Black Hawks, Fl Seminols, etc. these teams have white mascots dressed up like Indians doing war hoops, tommahawk chops, etc. If all was fair people would scream at teams like the Mighty Whities, Fl. Jews, Detroit Zulus, etc.

I disagree with roxiecat4..., as it promotes racism, which is an evil thing. I get so sick of people calling me Chief, or saying How, that at times I have responded very negatively. Yet call a white man a honkey or use the N word to a balck man, and you have a big problem. Racism of any form must be eliminated

Many of the tribes that you state are being paid for the use of there name. I dont believe it is racism to use Indian names and dress up like them. The Seminoles for example receive 200000 per year for the use of there mascot by Fla state. I really think we have taken this racism thing way to far. People should not be so sensitive.

If you think that the word Indian,Brave chiefs,Sioux, black hawks, red skins, and Seminoles are racist then you have a very huge big problem young lady or young man whichever..
What is wrong with you ? There is nothing wrong at all with these names.
Are you prejudice against the America Indian? perhaps you are prejudice not the people who support names which help promote the Indian race..

I don't think it promotes racism at all. Most of the teams selected these names years ago but they signify power, strength and pride. Most of the names are Indian tribes who were always known as great Warriors, the teams want to appear as great fighters not as racists. If Whities, Jews and Zulus were great warriors they would be great names. Think of the team names as a complement not an insult.

Why does everything has to be a racist. These are just names. What about the WHITE sox's that is kinda racist. Come on. I really do not think it promote any kind of racist dance or what not. People have fun at these park it is called tradition. But once again lets change it for the minority and not have fun. Better yet let not serve BEER either or hot dogs. Hot dogs are poking fun at those little dogs.

You present no valid argument. The only one of those names that even remotely has a tinge of racism is Redskins. The others are not "racist" at all, perhaps only in your indoctrinated, liberal mind. If you'll remember, the Seminole tribe of Florida fought against the NCAA's PC demands on changing so-called "offensive" nicknames, claiming it brought publicity to the tribe.

Are you offended by Boston "Celtics"? If not, then it's you and your ilk that are the true racists.

LOL. I have a sister who is Lakota and doesn't think those team mascots are crud. It's part of American spirit to assimilate the past icons into modern society. They should be happy that we included them in our society. Other conquerors would haven't left a thing of their conquests. Troy, Alexandria, The city of David, and the list goes on and on.

it's not racism but it has race connotations!

i think america shouldn't forget that it was built by the near eradication of one race & the enslavement of another & this is a reminder of that, so i wouldn't knock it...

i wouldn't agree with changing the names because not having connotations like this delivered publicly is worse because you're sweeping the whole issue under the carpet than making a statement that's not racist but brings awareness in a way that's not deep & corny.

a lot of high schools have had to change their names already. i think as time goes on it will start changing in colleges and then pro. football. i think it's ridiculous that they have to change their names. it's not like the names are derogatory. you don't see the Penns. ****ers..that would be derogatory and should be banned
