It's trying to give you a measure of chaos theory

What this 'quote' is trying to say is that no matter how much you measure the weather around the world you wouldn't be able to predict the weather in the future because some thing as small as the beat of a butterfly's wings (or "fart" in your more colourful quote) would upset all your measurements,

and worse, the longer into the future you went, the worst your predictions would be... given long enough the butterfly's wing beat/fart would give enough errors in your prediction that you might fail to predict a "hurricance", as the errors would all add up

No. This is an example that is cited in chaos theory, but it is still not a very likely scenario. Chaos theory states that a small and distant force can have larger effects than people realized, the butterfly is a kind of huge exaggeration of that theory. A better example might be a dust Storm in the Gobi desert causing a major cold front and major rain in Canada.

You thinking of Chaos theory.

Well, in theory yes. Its just a thoery that says everythng is related an the smallest change to one "thing" can have effect on others and grow to have a major effect elsewhere.

The butterfly quote is an exagguration.

Oh you poor naive little thing. I think tornados and freak weather have more to do with pressures and wind etc...watch the weather or you're destined to go on living in a little bubble of naivity for ever and ever

you've heard wrong. butterflies cannot flatulate. if they did they would go about 100mph and their wings would rip off. it would be like putting a turbo charger on a skateboard. it's actually the flapping of their wings that causes the tornado

How old are you? When you fart, where is the full force tornado? Can you tell me that?

This is a b*astardisation of the Chaos theory where a minimal event; the flap of a butterflies wing for example, can trigger changes in events that will ultimately accumulate in a hurricane somewhere on the planet.

Beans, beans the musical fruit.
The more your animals eat, the more they toot.
The more they toot, the more tornados they'll start.
So don't feed your animals beans and they won't fart.
***people will be safer the world over.
