Readers ask, "How do I get an agent for acting"?

SUPERBOOKS ANSWERS:
===============================

1. First, if you can, attend any acting school, even part time. Most acting schools will put you in touch with agents.

2. Ask other actors and actresses who their agent is and see if you can get that same agent if you can. You'll find other actresses and actors at community events in your neighborhood (i.e. At the MS and MD walks and walks for all causes, they usually have actresses and or actors present to give speeches and all. At WELCOME BACK TO BROOKLYN festival in NYC, they always crown someone King and Queen of Brooklyn, these are actresses and actors. So try and go there and speak with one of them . At most big walks or causes you will find famous people. At the Breast Cancer walk and at the Dog Walk, again , there are famous actors and actresses. Here are some of the people that I've seen at walks and parades in the city:

Sophia Loren, Connie Walker (basketball) , Vincent Guardenia, Allen King, Jimmy Smits, Richard Simmons, Sandy Patti, Johnny Cash, Daisy Eagan (Youngest Tony Winner - The Secret Garden), Tony Randall, Robert S. Woods (soap opera star) , and many more.

So get out and meet people and ask about agents. You can meet celebrities at book signings at Barnes and Nobles. Go to your local Barnes and Nobles and go to a book signing. The agents are usually right there with the authors. Just speak up and speak with someone after the signing is over.

3. Ask your instructors or teachers to refer you to an agent or refer to someone who might know an agent.

4. Go to actors agencies, and ask about agents there.

5. Find auditions in the local celebrity magazines and go to the auditions without an agent.

6. LOOK for ads that ask for "extras" and see if you can get in somewhere as an extra. This will put in the proper circle where you might be able to get to meet people.

7 Go to your book store and get the pocketsize magazine called ROSS REPORTS. This magazine gives you contact information on all the Hollywood and tv and movies studies in the country. They list addresses and phones and agents information also. Not all bookstores will have this magazine. But if you call the main branch of Barnes and Nobles or Borders they might be able to call their branches and see if the magazine is in there.

Or check online and see if you can get a subscription to ROSS REPORTS.

8. CHECK all parades, and celebrations in your town or nearby towns. There is always either Keynote speakers or heads of the parades. There are always celebrities in all parades. Go out and make contacts.

9. Get a school press pass from your school newspaper, this will give you and edge and the paper might even give you training in that area of journalism. D o your homework, follow your leads and get to it. You will find your agent.

10. Advertise in a free newspaper that you need an agent. Sound professional . Do not sound like a beginner. And never say your age in the advertisement.

11. Ask EVERYONE ..if they know any agents. Ask parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, brothers and sisters , ask all of your co-workers. You will be surprised at the people that your family might know. You might even have an agent in your family but you don't know it yet.

12. Go to major news events and carry a sign that says "AGENT NEEDED" . Be careful with this one. Be very careful about strangers who approach you. When someone does approach you , meet only in very very public places. Ask for a business card and ask for the business address. If the agent has no office , then decline the offer. You want a successful agent and most successful agents should be able to afford their own office.
Never go to an agents office ALONE if you have found the agent using this method . ALways go with a friend or two friends.
Think safetly first!! Tell your mom or friends where you are going whenever you go to meet an agent. ALways leave a note in your calendar about where you will be when you are meeting strangers .

13. Try and get on the bill for AMERICAN IDOL, once you are on there you will be seen by many, many agents across the country. GO there, apply to go there and wait for your agent to find you. If you win or get into the top ten, you won't need to look for an agent, that agent will look for you.

14. Even if you do not go to acting schools, get a pass to go into the school and find the bulletin boards in there and see if there are any listings on the job boards that have access to agents.

These are only some of the ways you can find an agent. Hope this helps you somewhat.

Thank you for reading all this.

An agent must see you perform they will consider taking you as a client. When you are in a play send an invitation, or, flyer to all of the agents in your city. If they are interested, they will send an assistant to see your show. If they are NOT interested in representing you, you will NOT hear from them.

When you get an agent he or she will tell you where you are best suited. An agent may not think you are RIGHT for the Disney Channel. You don't have much say in the matter. They are the professionals, not you. remember that.

NEVER, go to the office of an agent or casting director, UNLESS you have an appointment. Find an acting class as soon as possible.
