In western society it is generally seen as more acceptable for men to look at and enjoy pornography than women. (Only one of my female friends regularly enjoys porno while most of my male friends do)
BUT
It is also seen as far more acceptable for women to own and use sex toys than it is for men. (Most of my female friends admit to owning and using dildos while I only have one male friend who uses sex toys)
SO
Why is there this difference between the genders on this? Why don't women look at porno and men buy fake vaginas to have fun with? Is this a difference in sexual desires or is it just what is acceptedin society dictating behaviour?
What are your thoughts?

Almost all the women of my acquaintance and age ( I'm 34) use and enjoy pronography. That includes all the women I've been in long-term relationships with, plus my fiance. I have rarely met any women of my age or below who have a negative or intolerant attitude towards pornography: those who aren't actual users of it are at the very least tolerant of it and amused by it, if not willing to take a look and get aroused by it.
Not so sure about the sex toys thing. All the women I know use or have used vibrators, dildos etc. There is still some degree of stigma atached to men using fake vaginas/plastic dolls etc. I am guessing here, but I think its found to be more acceptable for women to use sex toys, because its accepted that they can find it harder - or at least more time-consuming - to achieve orgasm. For men, who can generally achieve orgasm quickly and without much difficulty (yes, I know I'm generalising), there is I suppose less of a 'justification', if any be needed, for using sex toys. Basically, if a man has a sexual partner, he is felt more likely to achieve orgasm quickly, and not need sex toys. Possibly for that reason, sex toys for men are still viewed as a bit 'dirty' or seedy?
That said, I think we need to be wary of making generalisations, as everyone's sexuality and sexual preference is just slightly different in its methods of application. Your experience with women and pornography and my own experience are clearly quite different, so its difficult to make any sweeping statements or conclusions wihtout a lot of qualification and caveatting.

Why do men watch porn.......mmmmm interesting one. I think the simple answer is that they have higher sex drives than women and they need to express this with the stimulus that pornography provides. As for sex toys, the recent upsurge of 'girl power' has a lot to do with it. The fact that many women are sick of being looked at as lumps of meat by men means that an attitude of 'i don't need a man to be happy' is becoming more prevelant and making the ownership of sex toys acceptable. Women like porn less because they constantly compare themselves to other women- men just don't do that as much and so can look beyond the impressive 'prowess' of some of the actors!!!

I agree with the first answer, men are more visually aroused, all they need(some of the time) is to look at a picture of a naked woman to get off....and there hand can be fashioned into the necessary tool to satisfy them. Woman on the other hand usually need more than this, such as role play(in the mind), ie, they imagine sexual scenarios....a picture of a naked man just wouldn't do it, I think some women use toys because our hand just aren't enough, unless your very double jointed!

I don't think so that there is any issue with females and males using sex toys or watching porn movies cause in today's era all gender are at a equal level and everyone watch porn movies whether it's a male or a female. difference is only that females hide but males doesn't...

Some men do purchase toys for themselves and enjoy using them either alone or with a partner.
Most women enjoy porn, they just do not discuss it.
