Many Disney movies, for censorship sake, have ambiguous romantic plotlines. Especially Marlin and Dory from Finding Nemo. I don't get it. Was Dory implying she was in love with Marlin with that "Please don't go away, I remember things better with you" speech? Was she Nemo's step-mother at the end?

i got the impression (when i watched Nemo with my little one almost every day for over a year.. eurgh) that no one had ever given Dory time.. and with Marlin she'd found someone, a friend, who was patient with her, accepted her as she was etc...

I didn't get the impression there was any romantic link between the two fishies, personally

No, I think it was just a 'good friend' thing, I think that due to her memory very few fish would actually put up with Dory for very long, but at last she found a 'true' friend in Marlin.

While she ended up living with nemo/marlin, I don't actually think they (Disney) were trying to imply that they were together as a couple.

it wasn't a romantic love scene it was a friendship, they became best friends thru out the whole thing and dori found that because he made her feel like she had a place in the world she could remember things better. She wasnt the step mum at the end she was just the outsider who found a home with the family.

Marlin, he was doing the best he could as a single Dad and managed to raise a very good boy. When he said Nemo was too young to go to school and he could start next year...I know the feeling too well! Plus I love Albert Brooks and could listen to him read the phone book.

No, she was meaning he helped her with her short term memory. She could remember things better. I took it that no one really befriended her because of her memory problem. She just wanted a friend.
