Sounds like conjuctivitis or an infection.
The only way to treat it effectively is to see your doctor and get cream and drops.
That should clear it within a day or two.

I get this all the time and it is due to lack of sleep and looking at a computer screen for too long. Its just dry eyes thats all and you need to go and buy some false tears(not joking) from a chemists. Don't for gods sake do what Pinky suggested and put water in them as there is a microbe in tap water that can cause you to turn blind.
Hope this helps

cucumber slices from the fridge is soothing, and an old wives tale is to rub the edge os a gold ring on the inner part of your lower lids, it works for styes, don't know why - yes,I know it sounds mad! But if this goes on, go to you GP - or if you have something in your eyes a A and E dept at the hospital have special equipment for eye care

Sounds like an infection. If it is sore enough to disturb your sleep then it is serious enough to take to the doctor. You can try some Optrex or similar eye drops or bath to sooth it. Go along to your pharmacist and ask his/her advice, they are pretty good with more minor things, but if they advise you to go to the docs, then make sure you do. Your eyes are far to important to neglect.
Hope you get better soon.

Don't mess with your eyes go and get advice from chemist or doctor straight away. If you have a emergency walk in centre near you go there. Probably something easily cured but not worth taking the risk.

Sounds like conjunctivitis. See your doctor or get some drops from the chemist. Should clear up in a few days.
By the way, it's really contagious so be careful not to pass it on!
