Wash the Hamster immediately using Dawn Liquid Dish Soap. That is what the volunteer rescuers used on the Marine Life, such as Seagulls after the big Alaskan Valdez Oil Spill. Make sure he is thoroughly rinsed and dried. Keep him in a warm environment, as they tend to get cold easily. If you have lights for the aquarium leave those on and put the Hamster in there. You should not need to take him to a vet unless he experiences any symptoms later on. It is highly unlikely the Hamster ingested anything. Do not use thinners~this will scorch his skin and give him inhalation poisoning. Next time I'm sure you will be more careful. Take care.

Don't use thinners. Use some mile dish detergent and a gentle tooth brush. I would still take your hamster to the vets after you get it cleaned up, just to make sure it's okay.

DO NOT use thinners it will burn his skin. Try washing with a mild soap or your own shampoo. Or you could rub him with a lot of bran, this probably will take up most of the oil, it is like a dry shampoo.
I have to ask, what on earth were you donig for this to happen?

Ok the thinners will only scorch the skin since there skin is so thin. Use dishwashing soap, like dawn it cuts grease and wont harm them. just use a drop in some warm water untill he is clean then use some regular hair conditioner and he will be fine.

You are joking aren't you? Imagine what it would be like if you were washed in thinners? If you do it, you'll probably kill the little thing. Worse still, it'll survive and be in pain. Take it to the vet.

no that is not a good idea, but you can get wipes or shampoo from your nearest pets at home store and that should do the trick.
