"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." - commonly attributed to Ben Franklin, but actually penned by fellow Diplomat Richard Jackson.

Hi Florian,
Let us put things into perspective. Our chance of being struck by lightning or a drunk driver is greater than being stuck by a terrorist. So, how much liberty have we given for the other dangers in life?

We are going to give up as much as our nations' leaders tell us that we have to give up and that will be the end of it. If we don't like it, I am sure the government will take us to the side and get us educated to the way they will have us conform.

What about the liberties of those who attack us? I noticed that nothing is being done to bring those responsible to justice.

We who's we, I'm going to fight for every liberty I think is rightfully mine to keep and have!!! Because there is NO such thing as SECURITY!!!

As for the constitution that the USA current gov administration is trying to tamper with...
My answer is: What ever the people let them get away with.
If we don't fight for the liberties that were faught for before, then those not fighting obviosly don't care about how much they deserved them or all the fallen soldeirs of the past that *really* DID fight and die for those liberties. What we are fighting now in "The War on Terror" is not our liberties, if anything it's the ego of revenge (and most likely $$$ too from corpret greed). Terrorist can not take away our liberties or freedom, they can take away our life but not our freedom. Bush says the troops are fighting to protect our freedom, but in reality if terrorism doesn't really treaten our liberties then why is our troops fighting in the name of our liberties. The funny thing is, why is Bush "protecting" us by taking away our liberties to fight terrorist who can not tuch our freedom? I think the Bush administration has gotten the people confused...

I do not know about you. I am doing everything as I did prior to 9/11. I no longer recognize the Government as a one that is not for the people and by the people, we have been slaves to some other agenda created by the U.N.paying for it 9/11,paying for in lost American lives in Iraq, paying for it with tax dollars, sounds like non-conformance with this will mean being placed in one of many Stalogs built in the 90's . we are now living in a police state. Do not conform. Question Authority.

You can build a fortress and hide in paranoia until it drives you insane or you shoot your foot off, it doesnt change a damn thing.

I can't believe how much information I can get on an individual simply by looking them up online!!!

I looked up a friend in the USA and there was not only her name, but that of every single member of her family and for a small fee you could do a background check on anyone you wanted!!! What the HELL KIND OF SECURITY IS THAT?????

Wow...I'm just glad I don't live in the USA. I heard that every phone call is recorded and tapped into....may just be sci-fi bull-crap, but somehow I tend to believe it's true.

The Patriot Act? The very name of that gives me the chills....Be patriotic or else...if you live in this country, you'll live by these rules...wow...that is democracy? What a load!

Get rid of the Good Old Boys once and for all people. Don't be stupid enough to keep voting them in over and over and over.

But once a redneck always a redneck...doubt that will ever change...means thinking for yourself and sadly not many seem capable of that.

I think people have already offered many of their fundamental rights in order to feel secure, but what i see is that they feel more insecure everyday. Giving up your rights is not the answer, you are just making the things easier for the goverments to execute their plans and to make you feel afraid to express your beliefs because you know that you are being watched!
The use of the word democracy in our days is ironic! Democracy with the real meaning is an outopia for this world in this state.

This is one of those questions that are slanted in such a way that the questioner will poo-poo any answer that disagrees with their opinion. Words such as "going to offer" and "supposed security" are leading. To answer the question, I feel that there is no problem in a democracy and only those people that are conspiracy theorists or criminals need worry. Airport security is sometimes over the top and the only people who seem to get anything past the security are undercover journalists.

I think the new laws that just passed for the airports were over due. Sept. 11th happened becuz it was an inside job. So, with out those bad inside people, we should be ok

Up to the point where we begin to feel insecure about how much freedom we've already given up for supposed security.

None. This is a leading question. It makes an assumption of facts not in evidence, i.e. we have to give up some liberty for more security.
I am personally satisfied with the liberty I have. I am personally satisfied with the security I have.
No one is ever perfectly free to do whatever he wants. No one is ever perfectly secure from harm.
