The city has a future. I t will grow in good times for the city. It will shrink in bad times for the city. These good and bad time are a measure of how times are out side the city.

Automation is the future. The city will no longer be able to support common laborers. This will cause great depression among the lower educated groups. The city needs people with technical knowledge to keep all of the complex machinery running.

The future of the city will ride on the ability for society to educate everyone to the highest possible level. This will be the only way people will be able to live in a city where there will be very few lower skill jobs.

The future of any city depends on the future of its people.
People can choose to stay to keep it in existance, or people can choose to leave and have it crumble under the elements of time and possibly be forgotten.

The future of a City?.... this questions in too vague. I guess the future of any city would be grow and prosper. Cities also seem to modernize. If anything more people will be living in cities.
