CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!
Now onto an even healthier, and sexier, YOU.
Crunches, sit ups, and eating and drinking healthy.
Give yourself some time though, as they say, you didn't pack it on over night and it won't come off that easy either.
GOOD LUCK and enjoy the clean and sober journey that you are on. Be proud of yourself, I am and I don't even know you.

Your abs are made up of four layers of muscle, all running in different directions.

Situps will not fix a bulgey belly, because they work the muscle that runs from your ribs to your pubic bone (rectus ab). Tightening this can compress your belly, but won't change its shape.

Twisting movements use the middle two layers (external oblique ab & internal ob ab); these cross over like a letter X, and tightening them both equally 'pinches in' your waist.

There is a machine for doing this: it's like a platform that you stand on, and you rotate it from side to side with your hips while keeping your ribs still by holding a handle in front of you. Some gyms have them, but not all, so shop around.

Anything else that twists your hips and ribs in different directions, will have a similar effect. Try Salsa Dancing or walking like a pimp.

IMPORTANT: Be careful! All this wiggling can injure your back and other joints if you're not used to it. Only do a little of the exercise at a time. Get checked out by a doctor before you change your habits, to find out if you have a back, joint or circulation problem that you haven't discovered yet.

There is no such thing as a beer belly.

It is your diet. Combine a good diet with lots of water and your swimming. Eat a banana a half hour before swimming and it will do miracles. Eat something salty immediately after swimming to trap water into your muscles. As your muscles retain water more and more, your metabolism will go up and fat will be burned. it takes about a month for your body to process all your body fat. DO NOT drink anything with caffeine or alcohol, even meds as this will ruin your efforts.

You don’t need to exercise for long periods of time. Short, sharp sets of exercise will produce better results in case you work hard. Get a passing up rope, skip for two min's, do push ups for 1 minute, skip for two minutes, rest first minute. Then change the push up to something else like sit ups as well as do the set again. Repeat it five times and it’s a quick, effective workout that will advance results than a long function or swim.

to be honest it depends what you mean by beer belly. A proper beer belly is as a result of proliferation of liver cells in order to deal with all the alcohol making it bigger and so make your "tummy" stick out. Not alot you can do about that, it will reduce in size a little by cutting out the alcohol. Alternatively you may just be a little bit lardy in which case you need to control you calorie in take a little and avoid certain fats and refined carbohydrate (i.e. junk food, sweets and white bread). Keep the calories down to between 2000-2500 a day. Finally try to "engage" your stomach muscles as much as possible, improving the line of your gut, your posture and the amount of calories you burn a day, this will eventually become automatic. i.e. suck your gut in dude.... good luck

you can't remove fat from a specific area by exercising it. you have to lose the fat by taking in less calories than your body uses, eg: diet. when the fat's gone, you'll reveal the muscles underneath. unfortunately, the belly is usually the first place men's bodies lay down excess fat, and the last that they lose it from. if you can cut a little more calories from your diet and/or increase your exercise levels even more, you should gradually lose the fat, be patient, and good luck!

I've got one as well though I still drink bottles of bud, maybe I need to give them up, I have given up pints of beer though I still have cheese and chips as well, I go swimming regularly though and I weigh between nine and ten stone.
