It depends on what event. Michael Phelps definitely has the best butterfly. Aaron Peirsol and Ryan Lochte each hold two backstroke records. The same goes for Brendan Hansen and Ed Moses for breaststroke. As for freestyle, Ian Thorpe is better at shorter distance events, and holds 3 records for those. Grant Hackett is better at longer distances, and holds 5 records for those. Michael Phelps, Ian Thorpe, and Grant Hackett all hold records for freestyle relays as well.

Not sure about you though. ;) I'd have to see your times.

Com'on. You have left out Pieter Van Den Hoogenband, Alexander Popov and Roland schoeman.

Ian Thorpe? Freestyle? No way. The guys that I mention above can beat him easily. If he is so good at fs, where is his name in the Olympic and World record?

My pick - Alex Popov.

It's certainly not Me.
I don't know who is the best swimmer in the world, but my guess is that it would be some particular fish in one of Earth's oceans.
