If you mean mac address, you can find it by going to Start-> run ->type in "cmd" if you have XP or "command" if you have win 98 (without the quotes). Click ok or enter. At the prompt type ipconfig /all (with a space between ipconfig & the /) & press enter.
You will see your physical address ..this is the same thing as the mac address.

Could be two things:
1. If you are transferring broadband service providers the provider you are transferring FROM may give you a MAC code (MAC = migration acccess code, I think). This is supposed to make transferring broadband suppliers easier, but not all providers use it.
2. All network devices (wired or wireless) have a MAC code which is a unqiue identifying number. Its usually printed on a label on the network card and consists of pairs of numbers separated by colons.

Some of the answers are not correct or irrelevant to your question.
To get your MAC address go to
Start Menu ---> Run ---> type in "cmd"
The black screenie will appear and type in
ipconfig /all
You then will have a list of all the technical information related to your PC or laptop.
MAC address is as well known as physical address. Its format should look like
"00-00-00-00-00-00"
Good luck !
