Employers have the right to request documents for you to justify your absence in work. This right is provided for in the labor laws on standards of work.

If they can require documents from your doctor (which are extremely private and NOT available to the public), what makes you think they cannot require accident reports (which *are* publicly available)?

It should be pretty obvious that employers are not beholden by any law to respect their workers' privacy. They can record calls made on company phones, record keystrokes made on company computers, covertly bug break rooms and bathrooms, film employees at work and even stake out employees homes (as in the case of disability fraud investigations).

On top of everything else, employers have no obligation to tell you that they are doing these things.

U.S. employers are restricted only by laws enacted to prevent such gross abuse as racism and sexism (and under conservative rule, those laws have been pretty much watered down to meaninglessness). At any rate, large employers are easily sophisticated enough to violate the spirit of such laws without violating their word; some argue that such laws are specifically written to be circumvented.

Good luck on your case.

Yes they have the right to ask and you can easily provide these police documents unless you live in Iraq.

sure why not? You dont care to provide it, they may or may not be able to fire you, depending on where you are and the applicable law.
