I think you answered your own question. I have heard that they are good for that, but I think if they take in too much air, so that should help with that. Do you burp him several times during taking the bottle. Also, do you know how he is tolerating the milk, or if he might not be agreeing with the milk. Talk to your doctor about that, and maybe there is a non-milk product you could try and see if he is any better. Sounds like the new bottle is doing the trick however.

I agree that the Advent were horrible for my daughter colic. I later found out that Dr. Brown or any of the bottles with the disposable liners that you can push out the air are good. I know they are a little more costly, but well worth it to have a happy baby. Some babies have colic regardless of the bottle you use. Some babies eat fast, too much milk comes out at once, they aren't burbing enough, etc. Try slowing down the feeding. Giving a rest in between each time you let him suck on it and burping more often might help. Little tummy rubs help. Warm baths.

"Dr. Brown" bottles are the BEST!! My baby had problems with every bottle when she was a new born, even Avent and when I used Dr. Browns she was a very happy baby. Now she's older and I can use any bottle cause her stomach is more mature. Highly recomend Dr. Brown bottles.. :)

Good luck, colicky babies can be a nightmare. My oldest daughter had it for 6 months. Some things that worked for us.

A warm tub of water, Yes you will be all wrinkled by the end of it but the baby will get some sleep as the warm water relaxes him.

A Colic Hold. Lay the baby stomach down with his head in the palm of your hand and his arm and legs on either side of your arm. This really worked great.

And GOOD LUCK and it does get better.

I didn't find any when my son was colicky. & according to my ped, those don't work, just like gas drops (so don't try those for a cure either)! So I wouldn't waste money trying lots of bottles. Stick with what you have & try other options. The only thing that worked for my son is cuddling him close, rocking or swaying, and whispering shhhhhhhhhhh until he fell asleep. We tried the list of things online, but nothing worked.

Avent bottles are horrible. Get the Dr. Brown bottles or Parent'sChoice bottle (Walmart Brand). The Playtex nurser bottles are also pretty good. If you still want to get the Avent bottles, please go to www.epinions.com and look up Avent bottles on here.

I use Avent bottles with the slow flow 2 hole teats. My son is 4.5months and has never had a problem with these. Definitely worth the money - we've never had a problem with colic.
PS don't worry about going to hospital - better safe than sorry where babies are concerned
