It keeps sinking and seems to have lost it's neutral buoyancy - is there anything I can do to help it and should I separate it from the other fish in the bowl?

This fish will probably die and then the water will go bad pretty quickly. The kindest thing to do is to put it to sleep. Do NOT flush it down the loo, this is not kind. You can either put it in a plastic baggie and pop it in the freezer, or put it in a small bowl with some water and add 2 alka-seltzer to the water. Both of these methods will kill the fish quickly and painlessly. You should check your other fish for any signs of disease - especially little white spots, which is a sign of a disease called ick (no really) which can be easily cured if you treat immediately.

take it out of the tank into a bowl of its own now.
Put in a tonic for sick fish into the water along with some tap safe
do not feed him for 24 hours need to see if he's going to the loo
give a little food just 1 or 2 flakes see how he is
If the water goes milky he's real sick change half and add a small drop of tonic I use gold fish safe.
I afraid if there is no improvement within 48 hours you have too make the decision to flush him down the loo or let him die a slow
death.
If he shows signs of improvement keep changing the water until its no longer milky he might be getting better. so give a go just keep an eye on him and a bit of TLC he should hopefully get better for a while.

Sounds like swim bladder disorder like a couple other people have said. Try fasting for a few days then feed deshelled peas.

Keeping a goldfish in a bowl is a death sentence and your other fish will eventually become ill too and die. Goldfish need a minimum of 10 gallons each. Next time before you get a pet research first, it will save them a lot of torture. And don't ever flush a fish especially if it is still alive down the toilet, it may put it out of it misery after even more torture.

it has swim bladder problems - if you are feeding it to many flake food this can cause them to be constipated and leads to pressure on the swim bladder. (Frozen food is best - blood worm or water daphnia)

You can try aquarium treatment number 13 to help with this. It is a good idea to put the fish in an isolation netting so that it does not catch its scales on the stones at the bottom of the tank.
(it may be an idea to not feed the fish for a couple of days to help the intestines to clear)

Another good tip is to put peas into the tank (not the canned peas) defrost them in some boiling water, crush them and add to the tank - this is a natural laxative for the fish and may help. Be prepared for the worst mind you.

Good luck

I had a goldfish do the same thing once, it eventually died. There is a name for the disease, but I can't remember what it was. You could call a pet store and possibly get medicine for it. I would separate it from the others. (I'm only admitting this to you, now don't laugh, but when my fish started sinking, I actually stayed up all nite lifting it to the surface with a spoon to get air...I know, I know! ..I just felt so bad for the poor thing..but sadly it died anyways)

Are all the other fish ok? If so, then this one is maybe just old and gonna die. Alternatively, I found that if you changed the water in the fishes bowl after a big storm, sometimes the water can become polluted and not cleaned well enough to get rid of the toxins. In this instance, a fresh bowl of water may help.

This is quite common with goldfish and is probably caused by dirty water or constipation. Try cleaning your tank and giving them daphne to eat. If your goldfish doesn't recover within a couple of days he probably has a disease or infection in his swim-bladder which is more difficult to cure and I would recommend speaking to your local fish shop.

If your fish is in distress and you think it would be kinder to put him down please don't flush him down the toilet. Put your fish in a separate container and add clove oil and he will slowly go to sleep. Obviously the more water there is the more clove oil you will need. Clove oil is a mild anaesthetic and won't cause him any distress.

IT WILL DIE....it needs to swim around to get its oxygen, i am sorry to say this but eventually it will more then likely pass away from suffocation.
Be kind, give it a easy life, get a bubble machine put in the tank, to help with the flow of oxygen that should help keep it alive.
There is not much you can do, so either, send it to fishy heaven.....(Down the Toilet,,,,like a major rollercoaster for them i guess) or just leave it be.

Thats all i can suggest sorry.

If the water is not oxyegenated it might be suffocating. Install a small water pump they are not expensive and available from a pet shop.

Fish do not thrive in bowls of still water.

you might have over feed it. Separate it, it might have some other disease not food related. Bacteria, fungus or virus.

You can try to put it in a different bowl-with water added with fish medicine (easily in pet shop). Good luck.
