As a New Yorker, I don't appreciate the assumption that the US government "thinks they have the right to test nuclear weapons" nor do I appreciate the accusation that we are hypocrites. It’s very important that the UN monitors who has nukes and who does not. Think about it this way. What if the Taliban (Bin Laden and his entourage) had nukes on September 11th (or even before then). There never would’ve been a September 11th. You know why? Because they’d of wiped the USA off the map long ago. They would have never needed to use air planes to crash into the World Trade Center in order to destroy the towers... now would they? If the Islamic extremists had nuclear weapons because the USA and the UN decided to be a bunch of pu*sies and not monitor nukes, NYC would've been lying under rubble way before 1993 (when they first bombed the WTC)….Seems reason enough to monitor nuclear weapons if you ask me.

It is hypocritical.
I don't believe the US still conducts nuclear tests does it?
I don't feel worried by the Nuclear weapons the US has. Neither does Canada, Mexico, Brazil, etc.
North Korea is another matter, all it's neighbours are very woried and it could well lead to nuclear proliferation in that region.
So Hypocritial ye, but that doesn't always make it wrong. Is it hypocritical for the police (in the UK) to have an armed response team when civillians aren't allowed to own guns?

Presently, the US is reducing the number of stockpiled weapons it has. The Cold War was the primary reason for the arms race of the past, and the US is afraid that with more and more fingers on Nuclear triggers....it's just that much greater a chance that someone will use them to destroy their perceived enemy. When last used in combat, they were used against the aggressor and used to stop a war we did not start. We fear that what is going to happen now is that some wacko like Achmadinijad will get his hands on them and use them to "Wipe Israel off the map, to in effect, bring the second coming of the 12th Imam."
Its not hypocrisy, it's self preservation.

The USA has had nuclear weapons for 65 years. They CAN have them because they have the power to have them. The rest of the world is lucky that the USA has them and some other places don't.
Why does the USA "police" the world? Because they can. No other country can, and the UN is worthless, and even more worthless is the thieving head honcho at the UN and his family.
If not for the USA, WHO would be ruling your country now? It took one week to over run France at the beginning of WWII, and one week for the Japan to waltz into Bangkok.
Nuclear weapons are here to stay; if they spread, they can be sold by poor nations (North Korea) to terrorists for big bucks which would support their dictatorships. Terrorists in little countries have awfully big oil bucks and drug money to work with, and a major world religion to help fund them. Better let the good guys continue to do what they do instead of bitching and whining. And then screaming for help at the first problem to hit your poor defenseless (without US aid) country.

There is a conspiracy theory on this. In film footage of a nuclear test, there is a point where there appears to be a strange bubble that appears. The conspiracy is that nuclear testing causes a rip in the fabric of space time that is very dangerous and irreparable. Only a few country's know about this and it is top secret and they don't want other country's causing more damage and letting more inter dimensional monsters and energy's in.

Please rephrase your question,
"Is there a genuine reason why the US gov thinks they have the right to test nuclear weapons but no one else does or are they just hypocrites?"
You should be asking instead if there can ever be a proper justification the US can ever make for having and using NW?
America has neither history nor culture.
In the rest of the world, civilizations are a few thousand years old,
so who are more matured?
Americans or the rest of us?

I agree with u that USA is hypocrites but they also have a reason for that .. they simply want to be the one and the only country that have nuclear weapons so that they control whom to give them the weapons and whom not and in what price .. Imagine u r the only source for a product, wouldn't u be able to control the price and be the leader of this product and to make good deals just because u have it???
They just what to be the leader of the world

Simply put - There are quite a few countries that have a nuclear arsenal, but I believe, the USA is worried that if more countries develop the weapons then there would be more chance of the weapons falling into the wrong (terrorists) hands.

The United States is a self-defined world power. Thus, she believes she can dictate to other countries what they can and cannot have. Allegedly, she uses the threat of nuclear weapons to keep rogue countries in check. And it is the United States who thinks this way, not the entire A\merica. Not Canada, Not South America.
