What is "MOST PEOPLE" to you? Americans or those in China? Do you mean it when you say "most people"? Or do you just assume? (P.S. I don't think there's a right answer to this, but just wanna know what's your perception. Thanks for answering!)

Hi Emilou2222, cos USA and China are the biggest countries if you don't count its population. (Singapore is the most people-saturated country 'per square feet'.)

Whenever I use that phrase, I follow it up with "in..." or "that I know"

Otherwise, it's silly to just use it by itself because one cannot know what the majority of the world thinks or does.

EDIT:
I think what the OP means is what people mean when they say "most people" because oftentimes, they only refer to people they know or people in a specific country. However, the phrase itself suggests the majority of the people in the world (rather just in the US) and about 21-22% of the world population is in China. Although that hardly constitutes a majority of the world population, it does indicate that many people who I've personally seen use the term use it incorrectly.
