Most religions have an Angel of Death (and pretty much all of them have deities associated with death, too many to list here in-fact). The Greeks had Thanatos (a cherub like character believed to be the original "Angel" of Death), the Celts had the Morrigan (a raven, or an old Lady who washed the clothes of those who were about to die in warfare), today we have The Grim Reaper (who is believed to be a bastardisation of Chronos, a Greek Titan associated with Time and the Harvest, hence the scythe)

It's a very common legend. Whether it's true or not really depends on the individual and how much stock they put in religion. Sort of like Santa, or the Easter Bunny, but less fun.

If you believe there is an angel. Then my answer is yes, there is a god of death. He send the angel of death to take your soul from your body and put it in the place according to your bad or good dids. If good you will go to Heaven and as i Know i will go to Hell.
