What do you think?
Would you do it?
How much would the discount have to before you'd say "yes"?

I think the leader of Bracknell Forest council needs to look at the figures. As other replies have indicated, much of the data he has is readily available. Some companies may be ready to pay a small premium to get up-to-date info on his entire area, but this is unlikely to be worth more than £10/household - probably much less. I don't know about you, but my council tax is much much more than this!

Why should somebody else have the opportunity to profit from my personal details. If that is the plan of the council then the data is no longer personal; they are public property. So the choice is obvious, No.

I'm sure there are already hundreds of companies selling personal data to marketers as is (regardless of the Data Protection Act), how else to you explain the amount of junk mail we receive? What makes this different is they're being upfront about it.

I still wouldn't do it though.

The mastercard company could have have been given your information from the electoral roll that's freely attainable. once you get your electoral roll replace card each year, there's somewhat field which you should tick in case you do not prefer your finished information added to this checklist. till you tick that field it is criminal coz you had the choice to choose out - even in spite of if it is in substantial factors and difficult to discover! Councils are a soreness interior the rear!! xx

Hell yeah, I'm already getting spam from left right and center, and the council tax is crippling. That would be a win win situation. Spam I can handle.

What personal data would they sell if you did not pay council tax?

I'd have to say 'Hell, yeah!'. I've already opted out of junk mail and cold calling, so it's a win-win situation.

If you're irritated by junk mail follow the link below. You can have your phone number removed too, then they're breaking the law if they contact you!

I'd say yes as I don't care who has my personal data, hopefully they may make a more positive use of it than I have.
