My daughter has forgotten her Windows (XP) password and now can't get into her computer. Is there a way of recovering the password, resetting it, or getting into the machine any other way?

when you get to the user login window ... press twice .. you will get a box with username and password fields ... in the username write < Administrator > .. and then press enter ... unless you have a password for the administrator, then you should contact the one who installed the OS for you ...
then go to the , then .. and remove the password

To be honest with you it is not difficult to recover XP passwords. There are many shareware products that within a few hours can decrypt the password. You should search for it in a search engine.

You should also create a password recovery disk for any future problems that may arise.

there may be an account on your pc that would not require a password stated as Administrator. it truly is particularly uncomplicated while some one gadgets up a working laptop or pc, that they do no longer placed one in. you do no longer generally see this account once you initiate, yet once you boot into risk-free mode you will see it. besides into risk-free mode, frequently, you capacity up the pc and once you notice the black BIOS show screen (the only earlier the XP show screen seems which many times has the call of the pc producer), faucet the F8 key until eventually a show screen comes up which has boot alternatives, one in each of that's risk-free mode. a collection of gadget data will load and be numerated on the show screen, and then the login show screen will arise. decide for Administrator and if a it asks for password, try in basic terms hitting return and if no administrator password develop into set, it would be useful in. as quickly as in, you may pass into consumer money owed from administration panel and reset any passwords which you would be able to desire to, then close down and initiate generally along with your new password. in case you get "keyboard blunders" once you faucet that F8 key, it many times potential you started tapping too quickly, so close down and take a inspect back. good success.

hopefully you can logon as adminstrator. in winXP hom,e you need to start in safe mode (F8 during startup) and press Ctrl+Alt+DEL twice at the logon screen. in XP pro I think you can do it without safe mode.

once you are logged on you can access the users in the control pannel and reset the password.

A password reset disk can be made to help this situation in future.

I am afraid you will have to wipe the hard drive and begin again. XPs password is not breakable unless she made up some questions to answer for a lost password. If not then I am afraid it cannot be done.

Open a new Administrator account ! This must be done in "Safe Mode".
Start computer in "Safe mode", go to "user accounts" in control panel, open new "Administrator" account with all privileges. If security is not an issue do not enter a password. ( Nothing to forget!)).
