Doing early christmas shopping. It seems like they already have everything. I want to get them something good.

I have the same problem. Perhaps a gift card to a favorite restaurant or store. Maybe a Home Depot or Lowes gift card if they are handy around the home, or a bottle of liquor and some scratch-off lottery tickets.

The first thing that came to mind was that you should get them tickets to some sort of sporting event, music concert, etc. I mean if they have everything already. Its just something different...you'd be offering them not a material thing (which they already provide for themselves anyway) but instead you'd be offering them an experience.

I recognize that that might be expensive though. I mean, if they are friends and they like the same thing then you could get them seats together. But chances are its not like that, so when you give someone tickets you shoudl actually give them TWO, so they can take someone with them to share the experience with. If you have that money then you could go with them (together at same event or separately at different events) or you coudl tell them to pick whoever they want, your mom, a best friend, etc.

So getting off of the expensive idea, and still noting that they have everything already, just get them somethign that is personal. Make it connected to something they really like or like to do, or something that symbolizes the bond between you two. If you go this route your dad and stepdad will really like that you put thought into the gift and made it something special. Plus you can find ways to do this really cheaply, that is, finding a gift that isnt so expensive, or even making one yourself.

As a final thought...is that close to Christmas already? My how the year has flown by...

Don't get them the same thing! In my opinion.

Does either like to BBQ?

I once filled up one of those aluminum pans from the $1.00 store and it was a real hit! I put al the ingredients for a BBQ in with checked napkins and big lighter that looks like a match.
I embroidered an apron with his favorite line on it. STAY AWAY FROM THE FIRE! he loved it.
there is always the favorite last minute "COUPON" hand made for "anything". Car wash, do your laundry, or make it real... lunch for you and I on a Saturday.

while uncertain in simple terms bypass with something that has these days come out and is very low priced. something that they are able to assert "wow i didnt even understand the made this". or on the grounds that he's a mechanic, a contemporary card for SEARS. do not bypass to Lowe's or domicile Depot, thats extra or much less for carpenders, not mechanics.
