He was a good man, and he made a difference. What other figures did you have in mind?

EDIT:
To poster below, MLK, jr did not really jumpstart civil rights. He was not the first important figure in the movement (throughout all its waves) For instance, W.E.B. DuBois was an advocate of equality between blacks and whites during the late 19th century and first half of the 20th century.

MLK himself said, "history cannot ignore W.E.B. DuBois because history has to reflect truth and Dr. DuBois was a tireless explorer and a gifted discoverer of social truths. His singular greatness lay in his quest for truth about his own people. There were very few scholars who concerned themselves with honest study of the black man and he sought to fill this immense void. The degree to which he succeeded disclosed the great dimensions of the man."

The man practically changed our whole society. Before Dr King began his work blacks and whites were segregated in every aspect of our lives. What other one man made such a change in America????

I think its remarkable that we honor Dr King. MLK day is not a black holiday. It shows that all people appreciate what he did for us, for all of us.

Who are you to choose that there are more important figures? MLK jumpstarted civil rights and to think that he is not a great man is ridiculous.

Political correctness. Same reason that High Schools have to nominate a Black for homecoming. Same reason that streets have to be named after MLK.
