Going to an after five birthday celebration--my dress is black, my shoes are open. Does the weather have anything to do with the decision to wear or not wear hose? If hose--what shade?

There's no rule that says you have to wear hose, but if the party were dressy, I'd wear them. I think the age of the guests might be a factor as well. Younger women often avoid wearing hose these days. However, many people still don't consider a woman to be "properly" dressed unless she's wearing hose. and either way, you'd have to decide whether you wanted to 'fit in' or 'stand out'. If you're trying to meet men at the party, wear sheer black hose no matter the fashion rules are.

to wear hose is a personal choice. If you feel you look better in hose but want to wear open toed shoes, then buy the open toe hose, they have them these days at Target or any other department store.

Pantyhose with open toed shoes or sandals just screams out tacky at the top of it's lungs especially if you got the seam part sticking out too. Women wearing hose with sandals looks every bit as dorky as a guy wearing socks with them.

I don't know how old you are, but women my age (late 20s) haven't worn pantyhose in years. For me it's bare legs in warm weather, and opaque tights in cold. There is certainly no rule that you have to wear hose, but if you're uncomfortable without them, go ahead. I guess I'd look for something that matches your skin tone so closely that no one can tell you're wearing them, but I don't know if there's anything like that on the market. With an open-toe shoe, I'd definitely go without them if it's warm enough, though.

For me wearing hose is out, but if you really feel like wearing, use light shade toeless hose, less visible.

Always nylons with open toe shoes, It's crazy sexy and sensual if you don't feel uncomfortable or shy in them. Black sheer and with reinforced toes drive guys crazy.
