If I'm having a sit down dinner at my house I always create a place card holder. I feel it makes your guest feel special.

We did that back in the fifties, when I was growing up, at like, big family reunions. That's the last I remember, except maybe a wedding would still be ok. I guess the world just passing me by right before my eyes, cause I never thought about this. Oh my...

Yes it shows your creativity and add fun and flare to the party. Enterainting is fun.
