An IQ of 164 corresponds to a z-score of +4.27 (mean=100, standard deviation=15). I can't give you a precise answer, but it's less than 0.001%.

After years of testing it has been found that about 2% of the population have I.Q. scores higher than130 (and lower than 70) Above 140 it becomes almost impossible to give accurate percentage figures which are of any value. Beyond 140 tests are being standardized on such a small section of those tested that the figures become less and less meaningful. I.Q. is not an absolute like the standard kilo or meter. It is impossible to create tests that are culture free or that take into account if the person tested is tired or not feeling well so the numbers that are obtained represent nothing more than a rough indication. I think that the best definition of exactly what intelligence is can be stated quite simply as something measured by intelligence tests. At very best it is merely a guide to a persons ability to perform certain tasks.

A properly scored IQ test will give this score to only 1 out of more than 10,000 people. When you take a bogus test (which is most of them) then they seem to give this kind of score to everyone!

The idea of the test is that if you give it to a lot of people, most 'normal' or 'average ' people will score about 100. Then the standard deviation will be 10. That means that about 60% of all people will score between 90 and 110, and about 85% of all people between 80 and 120, About 1% - 3% will score over 130 and only 1 in 10,000 or so will score about 160 -- in fact, this is not meaningful. The tests were never intended to be able to measure this high.

Of course, you can make everyone feel good by giving a test and then marking it so that everyone gets a high score. This kind of defeats the whole purpose of having the test, doesn't it?

I've had to take 6 of those test in my life, and I scored higher than that on all of them. I agree, I think there is more higher IQ folks than people think. And as was said before, I don't think of myself as smart either. Matter of fact, I was shocked every time I was told my score.

I have a higher IQ than that and I don't think I am all that smart.

I think there are more people with high IQ's than what people think.
