If you want a "total package" guitar, I'd suggest the Steinberger Synapse Transcale guitar. But if you have the cash, I'd also suggest ordering a custom-built guitar either from ESP or Peavey. It's quite an investment, but it's certainly worth it if you want a really nice guitar that you can truly call it yours and then some.

If you played a year and a half you will really not need something expensive. A squire might be good to start off with as they are a cheap Fender basically. if you want to spend a little more a fender is good because stratocaster and telecaster modles are very simple inside and so are open to anything. Most fenders dont have humbuckers and have single coil pickups making very smooth sounds. If you want rock get an Epiphone because they are the same as gibson basically but a gibson is about 5 times the price. I play an IBanez and have big hands and find it a little difficult but it is really awesome for anything. Guitarists like Joe Satriani and Steve vai play Ibanez but alot of famous guitarists use Fender. Eddy Van Halen, Eric Johnson Hope I helped

Fender Stratocaster
The Stratocaster, often called the 'Strat', is a model of electric guitar designed by Leo Fender in the early 1950s, and manufactured continuously to the present. The Stratocaster has been used by many leading guitarists and on many historic recordings: Along with the Gibson Les Paul and the Strat's older cousin, the Fender Telecaster, it is one of the most enduring and common models of electric guitar in the world.

read up on them (what to look for and watch out for) if you don't know already, ask other guitarists or find out what some of your favorite guitarists play, then visit a music store and handle some. everything you want may very likely be different from everything someone else wants.
